What Does Serving on the FNSA Board Look Like?
Serving on the FNSA Board is a one-year commitment that begins when you are elected at the Annual Convention. Board members meet regularly, lead projects, represent nursing students, and work together to plan FNSA programs and events throughout the year.
You do not need to arrive knowing how to run a statewide organization. You do need to be ready to communicate, learn, follow through, and support your fellow board members.

What the bylaws say: Regional Directors “establish and maintain a relationship and communications with school chapters within their respective region.” Article VI, Section 10(d).
What that means: You connect schools in your region with FNSA, share deadlines and opportunities, bring their ideas to the board, and encourage chapters to work together. You also chair a standing committee assigned after the election.

More Than Your Elected Position
Board members work together across positions. Depending on your role and committee assignment, you may help with membership, Breakthrough to Nursing, advocacy and resolutions, community health, elections, communications, fundraising, or convention planning.
Regional Directors also chair standing committees. You will have a defined role, but you will be part of a team working toward the same goals.
What We Expect From Board Members
Board service is rewarding because you take part in the work. Every board member should be prepared to:
Attend and participate in board meetings.
Communicate with fellow board members and, where applicable, schools in their region.
Follow through on their position and committee responsibilities.
Meet deadlines and ask for help early when something gets in the way.
Represent FNSA professionally at meetings and events.
Nursing school is demanding, and board members understand that. Consistent communication helps the team plan around challenges and support one another.
