As a Board, FNSA proudly attended Advocacy Days in Tallahassee, Florida, February 4–5, 2026, alongside nursing students from schools across the state.

During this impactful experience, the Florida State Capital welcomed nursing students and nurses alike for conference sessions, legislative preparation, and hands-on participation in drop-in legislative appointments. These meetings focused on pressing nursing issues related to legislation and political action.
Key topics addressed included:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Autonomous Practice – Bill H 301
Protection from Surgical Smoke – Bill S 162
And additional legislation affecting the nursing profession
These bills were ultimately brought to legislators’ attention and were successfully passed, highlighting the power of student nurse advocacy.
This event was made possible through the support of sponsors such as the Florida Center for Nursing, Florida Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network. We were also honored by a visit from Florida State Senator Dr. Barbara Sharief, APRN, who spoke with students at Florida’s State Capital.
To conclude a productive day of advocacy, attendees gathered for the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) Annual Legislative Reception, an evening of relaxation and networking. Overall, Advocacy Days proved to be a rewarding and empowering experience, and we hope to see even more of you join us next year.
